Mark 3
World English Bible, Catholic edition, in plain modern English. About the translations
Douay-Rheims Bible, Challoner revision, the traditional Catholic English Bible. About the translations
1 He entered again into the synagogue, and there was a man there whose hand was withered. CCC
2 They watched him, whether he would heal him on the Sabbath day, that they might accuse him. CCC
3 He said to the man whose hand was withered, “Stand up.” CCC
4 He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath day to do good or to do harm? To save a life or to kill?” But they were silent. CCC
5 When he had looked around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored as healthy as the other. CCC
6 The Pharisees went out, and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him. CCC
7 Jesus withdrew to the sea with his disciples; and a great multitude followed him from Galilee, from Judea,
8 from Jerusalem, from Idumaea, beyond the Jordan, and those from around Tyre and Sidon. A great multitude, hearing what great things he did, came to him.
9 He spoke to his disciples that a little boat should stay near him because of the crowd, so that they wouldn’t press on him.
10 For he had healed many, so that as many as had diseases pressed on him that they might touch him. CCC
11 The unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, fell down before him and cried, “You are the Son of God!”
12 He sternly warned them that they should not make him known.
13 He went up into the mountain and called to himself those whom he wanted, and they went to him. CCC
14 He appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them out to preach CCC
15 and to have authority to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: CCC
16 Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); CCC
17 James the son of Zebedee; and John, the brother of James, (whom he called Boanerges, which means, Sons of Thunder); CCC
18 Andrew; Philip; Bartholomew; Matthew; Thomas; James, the son of Alphaeus; Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot; CCC
19 and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. Then he came into a house. CCC
20 The multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.
21 When his friends heard it, they went out to seize him; for they said, “He is insane.”
22 The scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebul,” and, “By the prince of the demons he casts out the demons.” CCC
23 He summoned them and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan?
24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26 If Satan has risen up against himself, and is divided, he can’t stand, but has an end.
27 But no one can enter into the house of the strong man to plunder unless he first binds the strong man; then he will plunder his house. CCC
28 “Most certainly I tell you, all sins of the descendants of man will be forgiven, including their blasphemies with which they may blaspheme;
29 but whoever may blaspheme against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation.” CCC
30 – because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”
31 His mother and his brothers came, and standing outside, they sent to him, calling him. CCC
32 A multitude was sitting around him, and they told him, “Behold, your mother, your brothers, and your sisters are outside looking for you.” CCC
33 He answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” CCC
34 Looking around at those who sat around him, he said, “Behold, my mother and my brothers! CCC
35 For whoever does the will of God is my brother, my sister, and mother.” CCC
1 And he entered again into the synagogue: and there was a man there who had a withered hand. CCC
2 And they watched him whether he would heal on the sabbath days, that they might accuse him. CCC
3 And he said to the man who had the withered hand: Stand up in the midst. CCC
4 And he saith to them: Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? To save life, or to destroy? But they held their peace. CCC
5 And looking round about on them with anger, being grieved for the blindness of their hearts, he saith to the man: Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth: and his hand was restored unto him. CCC
6 And the Pharisees going out, immediately made a consultation with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him. CCC
7 But Jesus retired with his disciples to the sea; and a great multitude followed him from Galilee and Judea,
8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumea and from beyond the Jordan. And they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, hearing the things which he did, came to him.
9 And he spoke to his disciples that a small ship should wait on him, because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.
10 For he healed many, so that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had evils. CCC
11 And the unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him: and they cried, saying:
12 Thou art the Son of God. And he strictly charged them that they should not make him known.
13 And going up into a mountain, he called unto him whom he would himself: and they came to him. CCC
14 And he made that twelve should be with him, and that he might send them to preach. CCC
15 And he gave them power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils. CCC
16 And to Simon he gave the name Peter: CCC
17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he named them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder. CCC
18 And Andrew and Philip, and Bartholomew and Matthew, and Thomas and James of Alpheus, and Thaddeus and Simon the Cananean: CCC
19 And Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. CCC
20 And they come to a house, and the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.
21 And when his friends had heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him. For they said: He is become mad.
22 And the scribes who were come down from Jerusalem, said: He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of devils he casteth out devils. CCC
23 And after he had called them together, he said to them in parables: How can Satan cast out Satan?
24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26 And if Satan be risen up against himself, he is divided, and cannot stand, but hath an end.
27 No man can enter into the house of a strong man and rob him of his goods, unless he first bind the strong man, and then shall he plunder his house. CCC
28 Amen I say to you that all sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and the blasphemies wherewith they shall blaspheme:
29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost, shall never have forgiveness, but shall be guilty of an everlasting sin. CCC
30 Because they said: He hath an unclean spirit.
31 And his mother and his brethren came; and standing without, sent unto him, calling him. CCC
32 And the multitude sat about him; and they say to him: Behold thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. CCC
33 And answering them, he said: Who is my mother and my brethren? CCC
34 And looking round about on them who sat about him, he saith: Behold my mother and my brethren. CCC
35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, he is my brother, and my sister, and mother. CCC
