Bamberg, Germany, the early 1000s

Henry was duke of Bavaria, then king of Germany, then Holy Roman Emperor.1

He was a serious ruler who fought wars and worked to keep the empire together.1

He also founded the cathedral and diocese of Bamberg and supported reform of the monasteries.

Patronage No official patronage we can cite yet. The Church remembers him as a holy emperor of the Middle Ages.

He and his wife, Cunigunde, are both honored as saints.1
