In short: Fair question, and it’s not a dumb one. Heaven is perfect, total happiness with God, and nobody’s there pretending. CCC 1024 Hell isn’t God beating anyone; it’s the final choice to shut Him out. CCC 1033

Heaven is perfect, definitive happiness with God and all the blessed. CCC 1024

We can’t be united with God unless we freely choose to love Him; hell is the state of definitive self-exclusion from Him. CCC 1033

Honest answer: we don’t fully know how this works. We trust that God is more merciful than we are, and that no one in heaven will ever wish He had been less just or less loving.
