What happens to babies who die without baptism?

In short: The Church entrusts them to God’s mercy and lets us hope there’s a way of salvation for them. CCC 1261

God’s mercy and Jesus’ tenderness toward children (“Let the children come to me”) allow us to hope there is a way of salvation for them. CCC 1261
