In short: Everyone who prays feels it sometime: dryness, silence, nothing. The Church calls it a real stage of prayer, the moment to keep holding on. CCC 2731

Dryness in prayer happens when the heart has no taste for thoughts, memories or feelings, even spiritual ones. CCC 2731

It is “the moment of sheer faith clinging faithfully to Jesus in his agony and in his tomb.” CCC 2731
