There can never be a real conflict between faith and reason, because the same God gave us both, and truth can’t contradict truth. CCC 159
The Catechism welcomes scientific study of the age of the cosmos, the development of life-forms and the appearance of man, which should lead us to even greater admiration for the Creator. CCC 283
Catholics can accept the science of evolution. What the Church insists on is that God is the Creator and that each human soul is directly made by Him. Science asks how; faith asks why.
