The answer, in writing

Church teaching

The Catechism calls the question of evil as pressing as it is unavoidable, and as painful as it is mysterious, and says no quick answer will do. CCC 309

It says only the Christian faith as a whole is the answer: the goodness of creation, the drama of sin, and God’s patient love that comes to meet us, above all in Christ. CCC 309

God freely made a world still on its way to its final perfection, a world where things come to be and pass away. CCC 310

Our words

If anyone gives you a slogan about this, they haven’t sat with someone who’s hurting. The Christian answer isn’t an explanation first. It’s a God who came and suffered with us.
